ABOUT ME

About

Diana Hawatmeh is the Chief creative Growth Officer and cofounder of Abjad Design a creative design and branding studio based in Dubai. Diana, graduated from the American University of Sharjah with a BSc in Visual Communication. She worked for several years as a graphic designer in branding, publishing, and television across Dubai and the Netherlands, with companies including Brand Union, Dar Dubai Printing & Publishing, Arab Media Group, and Tarek Atrissi Design. She has also worked independently, developing numerous projects within Arabic typography, with her work published in "Arabesque – Graphic Design from the Arab World and Persia" and "Bold Visions – Modern & Contemporary Arab Art in the New Century.”

In recent years, Diana has extended her practice into textile art, working primarily through carpet as her medium. Her collaboration with jewelry designer Sheikha Al Serkal began during the pandemic, over shared sketches exploring Art Deco, geometry, and optical illusion. What started across jewelry, sculpture, glass, and furniture eventually converged on textile — resulting in "Deco Geo," a carpet collection rooted in geometric composition and optical illusion. Diana continues to explore textile art as a practice in its own right, drawn to its tactile, three-dimensional quality as a space for expression beyond craft, and keeps looking to expand into further art pieces across other textile and material-based mediums such as drawings, posters, and many other objects.
